Spring Break Recap - Travel to Florida

I can't believe we've been back for a day and I think we want to go back to Florida, where the sun, warmth and ocean breeze soothes the soul. All in all, we enjoyed our relaxing visit with my parents in Fort Myers. We were blessed with perfect weather - and for mid-March, the weather, even in south western Florida can be fickle.

We started our trip Wednesday evening, driving to Indianapolis. With an early Thursday morning flight, I estimated we would have to leave at 2am, so we opted to stay in a hotel close to the airport instead.

Scenes From The Road
I like taking pictures while we drive. My iPhone makes it even more fun.

The kids were so tired, they didn't even go to hotel's pool. Or, maybe that's because we arrived so late and it was closed.

We still had to leave the hotel at 5:30am - that's really early [the equivalent of 4:30am Central Time, and when you factor in the new daylight savings time, our body clocks think it's 3:30am]. Our plane took off right at 7:00, still shrouded by the inky black of night. And I realized my inadvertent genius of selecting seats facing east - we would be treated by a sunrise while airborne.

The only problem - Erica had the window seat. At least I was in the middle, but she's not all that tolerant of her mom leaning over her with that big lens. Add in my camera's need to emit flashes of light while attempting to auto focus at the dark subject and let's just say she was complaining through clenched teeth. I was only permitted to take one exposure, and I opted to manually focus.

The beauty in taking the first flight out to your destination - you can be at the pool by noon (or in our case, by 11am!).

Saturday Morning

This is how we spent last Saturday morning, before Auntie Teresa arrived:

I woke up early to pick up Brian from the all-night lock in at church. The sunrise coincided with my drive out to church:

A lock in means minimal sleep for all involved and a morning nap:
Tired

I worked out at a Cage Fitness class and then hit the road for a nice run in the glistening snow. I tried out another portion of the trail in the neighborhood:
Mile 3
The local neighborhood association must take care of this trail because most of the sidewalks in town are still covered in snow and ice. I greatly appreciate it!

Day 360/365 - Mornings

While I wish I had this week off from work, I would have missed the gorgeous, sparkly landscape this morning.

I love the look of these red twig dogwood branches in winter. Covered in frost, they are even more beautiful.

I watched the sun rise as I approached the interstate ramp.

And that sun really made the pine trees at work sparkle:

124/365 - Morning Clouds

I specifically woke up early this morning to take pictures of the ponds in the neighborhood. The cool night and warm days results in the formation of mist on top of the water.
But the overnight temperatures didn't dip low enough, so no mist. Instead, I saw these black, rolling clouds. [I googled "types of clouds" and think they are Cumulonimbus Clouds]

The winds picked up and they proceeded to move across the sky as the sun was rising.

Even though I didn't capture the misty water, I think the clouds made up for it!

81/365 - The Morning Sun

The sun coming through the neighbor's trees caught my eye this morning as I was making my coffee. The camera captures the view a little differently, but I still liked the picture. Just ignore all the dust and spots on the window!

Here Comes the sun

The kids are on spring break this week, which means sleeping in and hanging out all day long. This is the first spring break in several years where we haven't gone away, but I think the lazing around suits the kids just fine. The weather has cooperated, with copious amounts of sun in the afternoon and balmy temperatures.

353/365 - Early Morning

The week before we leave for a holiday vacation is invariably chock full of "stuff". Tuesday night, Scott and I attended our church staff party. Last night, Erica had a late horse riding lesson. I've been wrapping presents, finishing Christmas cards and preparing for Grandma's arrival tonight.
And I had an early morning at work today, which meant that I got to see the sun rise.
A bit of serenity in my busy day!

110/365 - Early Friday morning

My turn to go into work early this morning. One of the benefits is seeing the sun rise. Today's sunrise picture taken on the Interstate overpass. The fancy lights were erected not too long ago.

Today's weather was gorgeous - our first real Spring day. Erica departed after lunch for church retreat in Indy. I spent the afternoon cleaning out the fish pond and had a nice steak dinner planned when Scott suggested we eat out. We were headed for Za's, but then decided that the Sonic might be a better choice - we could eat in the convertible (the top was down, of course) and enjoy the warm spring breeze. It was a great decision. A perfect evening!
