346/365 - Heading South
I think the geese have the right idea - heading south. I saw several flocks flying overhead today. With the lack of wind and bright sun, it must be a good day to travel!
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

The ducks were hanging out in a pond by the baseball field. I estimate these little guys were born this season.
And these ducks are obviously more mature. They were quacking while swimming around. I even quacked at them and they responded. The group of ducks seemed right at home here.
That's what I think of when someone says "little baby chicks". These cute little guys are getting lots of attention at Brian's school. I was there this afternoon for a poetry reading event and had some time once school let out to check out the first grade classroom with the collection of cute babies.
Isn't he cute??
The kids get a true hands on experience with these guys in the class. I don't ever recall doing anything this cool in elementary school!
Last year, we found a nest of eggs in our front door's flower arrangement, seen here. Unfortunately, things didn't end with little baby birds, as the nest was abandoned.
This year, we have another nest:
And the mom is a mourning dove who is quite fearless, as she won't fly away unless the front door is fully opened.
I took the picture with the door opened about 4", while standing inside the house on a step stool. She looks like she is part of the door arrangement!
Hopefully, the eggs will hatch and she'll be able to take care of the little birds. We are avoiding use of the front door as much as possible.
Today's pictures were taken by Brian.
I love that my son shares my love of photography. He often points out things to photograph and if something strikes his fancy, he'll pick up my big SLR and start clicking away.
He was the one who noticed the cardinal at the bird feeder yesterday. Today, he took a couple pictures of Hannah, who was immersed in bird watching herself.
Because the cardinal is back.
He brought a friend, too (sorry, no pictures of the female, but I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to take her picture soon).
Finally, a visitor to the bird feeder! I bought a huge bag of black sunflower seeds back in January with the hope that we would see some pretty birds at the feeder [the feeder has stood empty for the last three or four years due to my laziness].
I knew "someone" was feasting on the seeds, but in thinking that the squirrels or crows had invaded the feeder, gave up on it.
But today, a welcome sight:
And I used The Pioneer Woman's Boost Action for PhotoShop Elements (PSE), freshly downloaded and installed this afternoon. I'll be posting more examples on my photography blog
The rain and wind put a chill into our Spring Break today. Hopefully things will warm up a bit tomorrow!
Alternate Title: Why I Don't Live Along the Water in Our Subdivision
As I drove into the subdivision this afternoon, sun shining, the air feeling almost spring-like*, I caught this sight out of the corner of my eye while crossing the bridge over the slough.
Hundreds of geese, waddling about, eating, squawking, and yes, pooping. They stretched along the slough banks to the retention ponds.
Hence, the reason why we don't live along the water's edge (even though the realtors will extol the benefits of "waterfront" properties).
*it's sad when 32degF feels "spring-like"
A compilation of the foggy shots taken this weekend.
Whew, this was my 2nd week in a row completing a mosaic. I created the 5x7 template from scratch, but really, it was quite easy.
