346/365 - Heading South

I think the geese have the right idea - heading south. I saw several flocks flying overhead today. With the lack of wind and bright sun, it must be a good day to travel!

274/365 - Perfect Autumn Day

Crisp breezes, ample sun, puffy clouds.

OK, maybe it was a little more than "breezy". Here on the prairie, "breezy" equates to "windy", and that north wind can really put a chill into your bones. Brian and I weathered that wind on our neighborhood bike ride. OK, we only rode about one mile before heading back, but we enjoyed the time outside.

I captured the road on the way to picking Erica up from horse riding. I love the sky this time of year.

268/365 - Autumn Sunset

I love days like today - sunny and crisp with just enough clouds in the sky to make things interesting.

255/365 - The Tomato in the Sky

At the end of tonight's baseball game, we watched this hot air balloon rise in the distance. It was a perfect fall evening.

196/365 - Sun Through the Clouds

I spent most of today running the kids around in the hot, humid weather - to Hobby Lobby, then to the Bed Bath and Beyond, then to the Hancock Fabrics, and Target.
Erica is on a room redecorating kick, spurned on by my request for her to clean out her closets. Out came all the kids' books, her American Girl Dolls and several big boxes of stuff I forgot existed. I still don't know how it all fit in her room, either.

After all this shopping, Erica had to do more at the mall with one of her friends. It was after I picked her up that we caught this spectacular view of the sun through the clouds.

169/365 - Lazy Father's Day

There was a lot of lazing around today. The heat and humidity continue.

We've had Sammy for over a week now. The integration into our family continues to proceed fairly smoothly. Hannah and Sammy have been playing "tag" with each other. We think they'll up being buddies in the long run.

And why do they always seek out the sunny spot, even when it is 90 degF outside?

In the evening, we found ourselves at the softball field, where a gorgeous sun was setting.

Hope you had a wonderful Father's Day!

Day 162 - Storm and the Aftermath

We're thinking that the neighborhood picnic is jinxed - another oppressively hot and humid day, leading up to thunderstorms right at 4:00. I was driving to pick up Erica from the stables when I watched the black mass of clouds roll across the prairie.

The Storm Rolls In

The rain only lasted about 30 minutes so we were able to have the picnic in Lisa and Jeff's garage. It was even clear enough to run the Bounce House and Mega Slide inflatables.

After a couple of hours, another small line of storms rolled through, and left a wake of misty clouds in time for a very yellow sunset, with a bonus:

A huge rainbow that spanned the sky. My lens isn't wide enough to capture the entire arc, but it was magnificent.

Sometimes you need the storm to get to the rainbow.

354/365 - The Third Time's the Charm

My 3rd trip to the Post office this week, to drop off the last of the Christmas packages. What's left - cleaning, packing and getting into a warmer frame of mind as we get set to embark out on our Holiday trip!

337/365 - Moon Rising

The [almost] full moon rising late this afternoon. I stopped to take pictures of an abandoned house and when I turned to leave, saw the moon.

Rising Moon

And yes, the farmers are still working a very late harvest. It's December and there's lots of corn still in the field.

308/365 - Afternoon Sun on the Prairie

Say what you want about the end of Daylight Savings Time. I love that (for now) I don't have to get up in the pitch dark. I love that I got an extra hour yesterday, that I promptly used by sleeping! I don't mind that darkness falls at 5:00.

I love that I got to see something different on my way to and from work.

What's different? Why, the light - an hour makes a big difference in the angle and quality of the light. This morning, with the sun higher in the sky, I experienced a light rain shower. The afternoon sun was lower as I drove home, and the clouds formed a magnificent curtain along the flat prairie.

Afternoon on the Prairie

I got extremely lucky with the above capture - sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

304/365 - Short Lived Blue Skies

I loved the look of the sky and clouds on the way to work. I felt optimistic that the rest of the day would full of sunshine. But the clouds and rains came. Luckily, I have a capture of the morning's sky.

183/365 - New Toy

I waited ALL DAY long for this to be delivered by Mr UPS man (who I saw in our neighborhood at 3pm, so why did it take him another 2 hours to get to my house?)

DSC_9459

[Funny how I put off this purchase for 9 months, but once I hit the BUY button, I couldn't wait for it to arrive]

But it is here, the battery is charged and I took a few quick snapshots, in JPEG format, straight out of the camera*.

I liked the reflection of the clouds in the patio table:DSC_0006

More gerbera daisies:

Hopefully, I'll have some more time to play tomorrow.
